The bad news first, then the good news

This is something of a mass e-mail again. My husband was admitted to the hospital last Saturday and I haven't been myself ever since. It's nothing serious... but he was in a lot of pain.

They discovered he's diabetic, too -- which was quite a blow. He's been through three doctors these past two months and no one noticed this in the urine test even though it had always been under their noses.

They've jammed him with all sorts of antibiotics and, thankfully, he's better tonight. It turned out to be an abscess... which burst and *that* made him feel much better. Yay for that!

The good news:

My poem, Franklin in the Garden placed 2nd in the Orbis 135 Readers Award. Such a thrill, since the competition was fierce. I also get 15 GBP slapped on my slimy hands. Sure brings a bit of sun to my night.

oh my dear, i am soooo sorry to hear that things got worse again! i guessed as much from your silence, sigh, shame i had to be right in this case. i am glad that they found the cause of much trouble and i have all my fingers crossed that lucio gets well again SOON! hugs to you both!

and congrats congrats congrats on the poetry news! you rock! :)

but ... er, who's franklin now? friend of nigel's? *L*

Arlene, what a weekend you must have had! I'm so glad to hear that they've finally figured out what's going on - hopefully now your husband will be able to get on the mend once and for all. Hugs to you and best wishes for him!

And congratulations on the poetry win!! That is awesome and very well deserved.

dear, dear arlene and mr.: glad hubby's on the mend, but also infuriated that sometimes it takes terrible incompetencies to bring to light the source, bring the relief. remember, doctors are still "practicing" medicine.

diabetes runs in my family,so i know it's tough sometimes, but new technologies are making it bearable, conquerable. he sounds like fine stock, and with you around (you fiery minx), he'll be roaring in no time!

as always HUGE congrats&kudos on your poem placing. your poet-fu never ceases to astound! (or kick *a* and take names!)
