Happy New Year!

Wheee! Hope everyone had a great time during the holidays. I'm a day late as usual in my greetings... but I've been —erm— indisposed.

We spent Christmas at the future in-laws' of the husband's niece... where I was coerced by her future dad-in-law to drink the anima nera (black soul) — a strongish liqueur made of licorice, alcohol and sugar — and I hadn't been the same ever since... especially since he made me do sudoku puzzles in such a sorry state while he watched. Afterwards he sent me home with an electronic sudoku gadget. I'm totally drugged on sudoku!!

Which, of course, leads me to say that I dropped out of my 6th round in 30:30 on the 26th day. As in, really rolled off the wagon, giggling my pants off while I ploinked away through sudoku puzzles. Have picked up my carcass and gone back to square six today.

Watched Robert Bresson's The Diary of a Country Priest yesterday for a poetry project. I was rather tickled green when the priest drowned his bread in wine. His constant drinking reminded me, naturally, of my thirst. Poor guy. Everyone thought he was a lush. He reminded me of someone but I haven't been able to put my finger on who that is. Yet.

Recent publications:

• Have two poems in the Jan-Feb 2007 issue of Eclectica: Sonnenizio on a Line from Wendy Cope and Caregiver.

The wife has a poem here, too about... memememememe as the driving instructor's recurring nightmare. Isn't she the sweetest?!! I'm going to thank her with a bat, I think. Or is that a boot?

• The January 2007 issue of Vintage Poetry Journal is now online with poetry by Steve Bloom, Alan Britt, Clay Carpenter, Christine Ann Clatworthy, Cathy Delaleu, Howard Good, Maureen Hand, Beth Stolar Kehayes, Kristine Ong Muslim, Chris Never, Keith Nunes, Jared Wahlgren and the owner of this bog... I mean, log. Erm. Brogue. Whatever. As in, whatever it is I'll drink to it. Tee hee hic.

Hiya Arlene. Welcome to the new year!

Sudoku is fun, but can you do thirty puzzles in thirty days?

Happy New Year Arlene. I love the poem Caregiver, it's got this zany but sad feel to it at the same time. Thanks again for contributing to Vintage.

Bresson is one of my favorite directors, and Diary, one of his best.

Congratulations on the publications. Fine pieces Arlene.

1 - licorice is disgusting.
2 - let me guess your new year resolution: never be sober? stay under the table because it means you cannot fall?
3 - my sudoku obsession has obviously left for spinea. :)
4 - you would not have dared dropping out on day 26 if no-way and myself had been around. we would have whipped you into shape. ;)
5 - congrats re vintage poetry!
6 - congrats again re eclectica!
7 - and yes, of course i am the sweetest. cream is nothing compared to me.

Happy New Year to you, too, Arlene! Bummer about the 30/30, but hey, just think of all those new publications you'll get from the 26 poems you did write. Congratulations on the latest pubs!
